Having imbalance in the hormonal system is very common when you have endometriosis or other pelvic pain. In the yogic tradition the hormones are called the "Guardians of the soul". There are many ways to help your hormones to get into balance again. Doing yoga is one of them that I find very helpful. So I want to share this wonderful Meditation for balancing your hormones with you.
Feeling pain, depressed or just weird?
Recognize this? Yes, many of us do. And one reason can be that our hormones are not in a good balance. Having low or high levels of our sex hormones can make us feel anxious, having pain, depressed, tired, loss of libido, headaches and the list goes on and on. The thing is that the hormones are working together in our endocrine system. So for example if your cortisol goes up and stay up for a long time, your sex hormones get affected too.
Can stress have anything to do with it?
I believe that one of the most important thing to approach first, if you want to address your hormonal imbalances, is to lower your stress. I have written about it before in this blog post: Does stress affect you? For the the endocrine system to work in an optimal way, you need to activate the Parasympathetic Nervous System (relax & rest mode). When are relaxed you increase the gland activity. If you activate the Sympathetic nervouse system (fight and flight mode) you activate the stress hormones and your muscles get tensed. In this world we are in a constant flow of information, we can be reached 24/7 (and also reach out 24/7), we don´t take time to recover and just doing nothing and let our bodies and minds to be still and relaxed. We really need this. So much. Just to be still. Or as I heard from someone (can´t remember who right now) "Just sit down and shut up!" Go inwards, focusing on the breath can be a big help. We need to lower the cortisol to balance the other hormones. So my approach is to start there: Take care of your stress first. What are your stress factors in life? Write them down. Is there anything you can do to change them?
