I think that your body & soul from the beginning knows exactly what you want and need in life. To survive, making progress and developing as a spiritual being. Just think about how babies are or children. When they have pain they scream and cry, when they are hungry they show it in one way or another. They are somehow connected to their inner voice and tell the world their needs and their opinion without thinking about what people think about them, it´s a natural behavior. They can be pretty straight forward, right? But as you grow up, depending on your family and society affecting you etc you lose contact with your inner voice and begin to think too much and act after that.
Maybe you say yes simply because you have no other option at the moment, or at least can´t see any another option. Or maybe you say yes because you´re afraid what other people will think about you if you say no. Or maybe you say no, but your body says yes. Only cause you´re afraid to say yes to something that you´re afraid of doing because it´s new to you. So what does this have to do with your health? And why is it like this?
What is it that signals in our body when we feel the no-feeling (or yes-feeling)
So what is this signal? Well some call it intuition, inner voice, gut feeling or your higher self. Maybe it´s your subconscious mind and it doesn´t really matter for me, the thing is that it´s all inside of us, but I´ll call it the inner voice here to make it easier in this post. We all have access to our own knowledge what we deep inside of us need. A knowledge that is always there for your own best. trying to talk to you, but maybe you don´t listen or maybe the inner voice is to silent? The problem is that for some reasons it´s hidden there and you can´t reach it anymore. Or maybe you reach it sometimes and when you do that, you feel that you´re on the right track that very time, feeling the flow in life, everything feels totally right and that´s a nice feeling isn´t it?
What happens if you don´t follow the inner voice?
So why should you follow that signal or inner voice? What happens if you don´t? My belief is that many of our illnesses, symptoms or emotional problems have to do with this. You don´t listen to your body´s signals or your inner voice over and over again and it get stuck in the body or soul somewhere. In yoga we would say that energy is blocked somewhere in the chakra system and you can eventually develop a physical issue or emotional difficulties. Well anyway no matter what happens, you miss out great things that can happen in your life or maybe be saved from some great problems affecting your quality of life.
I remember when I started seriously working on my personal development years ago, one of my first things I had to work on was saying no. That was not easy I tell you that, and still is a problem sometimes, but it has helped me to become the person I´m today and do what is my passion in life. And that has also helped me healing from my illness as I see it.
How can we follow the inner voice?
Do you have any experience with following or not following your innervoice? Please share your story with me!
The eastern is coming up and it´s a great time to practice listening to your inner voice, love yourself and take care! Happy Easter!
One of my favorite affirmation inspirations is Louise Hay. She´s such great person and she makes it so simple.
I remember one wonderful affirmation of hers I would like to share with you. Here it is:
I love myself, I really really love myself.
When to say it
Anytime. But I would recommend you to say it immediately when you wake up in the morning. It´s such a great thing to wake up and the first thing you hear is that someone (you) loves you!
(You can also do it looking into your eyes in the mirror.)
How to remember saying it
In the beginning it can be difficult remembering saying the affirmations, you are simply not used to them and they are not in your routines. It can take time to switch from that negative thought patterns into positive thinking, so the first thing is to try to be aware of when the negative thoughts are coming up in your head.
Another way is to write notes and put them on strategic places: windows, mirrors, fridge etc. You can also write them on the glas/mirror with a dry erase marker.
If I feel stupid saying them?
In the beginning it can feel awkward saying the affirmations. Or maybe you even feel that you´re telling a lie to yourself. What you then can do is to:

What are affirmations?
The word affirmation means confirmation or acknowledgement. Affirming regularly can help you to create positive thought patterns. Through the affirmation you tell the brain that you look at things in a positive way. In affirmations you set a goal how you want things to be or happen. How you want your future to be. When you say the affirmation (loud to yourself or mentally) you say it as it has already happened. You can write the affirmation down or just think it in your mind.
The negative thoughts affect your nervous system. It gives you stress and that is not good for your health right? Positive thoughts affect the pain in a good way, It affects the hormones in your body like endorphin, serotonin and GABA. All of these substances makes you calm and reduce pain. Look at thoughts as nutrition for your soul. You need a good diet to feel good. Your mind can help your body getting stronger and focus on the right things and make you move in the right direction. Just look at athletes, it´s well known that they have a positive mindset and visualize their goals and results. If they don´t, they fail.
Many people with a serious condition have witnessed getting better when they do things that are positive and joyful. In studies they have found that the belief in getting better is just as important as the treatment itself for their healing. Isn´t that something to think about! If the belief disappears the treatment has not as good result as if they are thinking in a positive way!
When you stop the negative thinking and start thinking in a positive way it is easier to get better and heal. You will hopefully feel more happy, motivated and inspired! And that makes it more easy to reach your goals.
To write an affirmation, you just have to think about a subject you want to change and write it in a positive way and as it has already happened. As soon a negative thought comes up. Write it down and then write the opposite as a positive affirmation. Some examples:
Try to affirm everyday for a month! Notice the change how it makes you feel! Say them loud, silent in your head, write notes and put them on the mirror!

The digestion needs peace
Your digestive system works at its best when the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS) is activated. PSNS is the part of the autonomic nervous system that is responsible for activities that occurs when your body is resting. It can be things like urinating, digestion, sexual arousal, slowing the heart beats etc. So you can call it a "rest and digest" mode.
The opposite is the Sympathetic Nervous System (SNS) that is responsible for the “fight and flight” state, makes sure that heartbeat accelerates, secrets stress hormones from the adrenals etc. When the SNS is activated it also inhibits the activities that PSNS is responsible for. So that means if you´re in a "fight and flight" mode your digestion is inhibited.
So slowing down when you have your meal is also very important. You can easily activate this “rest and digest” state. Here are some suggestions with Mindful Eating and the importance of chewing your food enough.
How are you having your meals? Do you have any special ways of making them more peaceful, beautiful and mindful? Please share your ideas with us!

Take care & chew well!
Every now and again when I eat it strikes me “Ah I forgot to chew properly again, why is it so hard for me to do that?” I have even written about it in one of my blog posts.. It is probably about changing my eating patterns. And I´m also a hungry person, you know that kind of person that easily get hungry and want food at the spot, getting all sensitive about it if I don´t have my food. And that makes me want to eat my food as fast as possible, which is a problem. And I also love my own cooking and can´t wait to throw it into my mouth. ☺
How can I start chewing my food more properly? And what is it doing to my digestion not eating in a mindful way? Is it possible to change a eating pattern?
This is the first part out of two blog posts about chewing and eating mindfully. Next post will come soon.
How to change patterns
According to the yogic tradition it takes 40 days for your body and mind to catch a new routine. To get used to the new routine and break the resistance for the new pattern you´re incorporating into your life. You should also do it every day without any breaks. Do it consistently everyday and every meal.
So make a mark in your calender and start chewing your food properly from today. Continue for 40 days. If you forget one meal, don´t be too hard on yourself, just continue your challenge.
When you start chewing with awareness, you´ll notice that the flavors will appear more and it can also be a kind of meditative state when you have your meals. Nice right?
How are your chewing habits? Are you chewing your food? Do you eat mindfully? Do you want to make it your challenge? Start today!
