Having endometriosis or pelvic pain can sometimes (or for some too often) make you have doubts if you can even start doing yoga. Maybe you´re in so much pain you don´t even consider beginning with yoga. It seems unreachable for you. But there are some things you can actually do. The only thing you need is some knowledge. So what can you do?
I´ve had terrible painful days since I started with yoga 2005. I´ve had days when I hardly could get out of bed and days when I´ve been totally fine. I don´t know how many times I´ve done yoga with a heat pad on my belly. Or ended up just sitting in Squatting Pose breathing out the pain, Or I had to stop in the middle of the set and go to bed again. But I have never given up. I have just adjusted what I needed at the time. And sometimes I just wanted to give up but the next day I continued. And why? Cause I felt what the yoga did to me and every aspect in my life. I couldn´t be without it.
It has sure been a journey in my personal development, and also in the research of what works when you are in so much pain. Today, fortunately, my bad days with pain are mostly gone and I think it´s possible for you too to reach a state of being pain free and have a feeling of wellness. And you can do yoga even though you´re in pain, even though maybe you think it is impossible. The great thing about MediYoga (Yoga as Medicine) is that it allows you to adapt to your own state.
We are different
First I need to say that we´re all different beings. I believe we´re all different and shifting depending on who we are as persons, what kind of problems we have and where in the cycle we are. (Read about following the cycle here) Some of us feel better if we move when we have pain. Some of us get worse moving. Some maybe have lazy tendencies and some are the opposites doing too much having too much discipline and find it difficult to relax. I think I´m a mix of both of those. I think we have to start listening more to what we really need and follow that, and also dare trying different things. I remember when I tried to avoid taking a pain killer and go through the pain in Squatting pose the first time. I was so scared and the pain so intense but I did it. And I proved to myself that it actually worked. I just had to have some patience, it took maybe 10 minutes and the pain had disappeared. Maybe you can try that too. Or not. Because we´re all different. It´s totally up to you.
When you have pain but can do yoga
Adapt the yoga to the situation you´re in. Here are some things you can do:
Yoga has helped me so much: In my personal development, it made me become more balanced, helped me in pain and so many other things. So if you have doubts not being able to do yoga, give it a try. Everyone can do yoga!
Take care ♡♡♡
Life itself consists in a cycles. First you´re born, you grow, maybe you have your own family eventually, you grow old and you die. The sun rises, moves over the sky and finally goes down. The moon goes from a new moon to a full moon. We as a human beings also follow a cycle, especially women. We have our period cycle that we are following. Or are we really following the cycle?
In the philosophy of Kundalini yoga we talk about the moon cycle. The phases of the moon have often been related to the phases of the menstrual cycle. Each month goes through a cycle as the moon and seasons of the year. It shifts, it changes and it feels different through the cycle. Have you thought about that you one day can feel very energetic and creative and the next day you feel introvert and another day you feel strong?
The ancient wisdom explains it like this:
A woman has eleven moon centers. These centers are located in different parts of your body, from the crown of your head to the sex organs. Each woman has a unique path through which the moon centers cycle. And the different centers are connected to different qualities and shifts through every 2nd day. Your moon center pattern doesn´t depend on the actual phase of the moon or your menstrual cycle.
This cycle can explain a lot why we act and feel in various ways. Why we one day from another can change our mind, maybe somewhat unpredictable. If you are aware of this it´s easier for you to accept things as they are and follow your cycle. One day can be perfect to call that difficult phone call you have postponed for ages. You feel strong and communicative. Another day is not the right day, because you feel more vulnerable.
So tuning in to you cycle can be a big help for you in your life. You do things that are right for you in the right moment. And that means putting less stress on yourself. Of course some stuff we need to do, but we don´t do it, because we have fears or obstacles, we need to cross that obstacle and do it. But do it when you are in tune with your stronger self.
